Catahoula History
The
Catahoula is America's own dog, originating over 400 years ago
in the Catahoula Lakes region of
Louisiana. An unusually intelligent medium to large sized dog of quiet
disposition bred to work the toughest stock but gentle with domestic
stock when trained properly. Catahoulas will find, bay, stop, and pen
the wildest cattle, the meanest hogs and the toughest bear. They are
highly social creatures, much like the wolf who they owe some of their
heritage, and thus make excellent companions, guarding and
protecting the family.
